| Cielo coffee and deli-bar was converted from the former Bethel Mission Chapel, which dates back almost 140 years.
The chapel was once a meeting place for visiting fishermen. The mission held an annual lifeboat service and remembrance service. It was also the scene for the annual dedication service of the Scarborough Royal Naval Patrol Service Association. Services at the chapel stopped in 1987 as the congregation fell to just four.
The building was previously the town hall, and a sunday school from 1835. The wesleyans bought the building in 1854.
In 1988 the building was sold and plans were submitted to change the mission into a shop. The plans were rejected and there was talk of turning the building into a maritime museum.
In 2004 the building was taken over by a scarborough businessman and rented out as a sweet shop.
Plans were later unveiled to convert the historic building into a stylish bistro, whilst retaining many of the ancient features.
